Richard Madubunyi is the Managing Director of Mabon Limited, an international energy and infrastructure company with interests spanning power generation, oil and gas services, and real estate across Africa, Europe, and North America. With more than 28 years of international experience across energy, finance, and investment-driven businesses, he has led the development, financing, and execution of complex projects across multiple regulated and emerging markets.
Under his leadership, Mabon has established itself as a recognised participant in Nigeria’s power sector and is the Concessioner and Operator of the 40MW Dadin Kowa Hydropower Plant in Gombe State. The Group continues to pursue expansion opportunities across power generation, renewable energy, energy infrastructure, and related industrial investments.
Richard also oversees Mabon’s activities in the oil and gas sector, where the company has executed major geophysical programmes including the largest 2D seismic and geochemistry survey in Nigeria and the largest Nigerian Span Survey, covering more than 100,000 kilometres offshore. These initiatives have contributed significantly to geological understanding and resource evaluation across Nigeria’s offshore basins.
Prior to joining Mabon, Richard served for 15 years as Chief Financial Officer of Magellan E&P Holdings Inc. in the United States, where he led finance, treasury, capital raising, and strategic planning for upstream oil and gas assets. In recognition of his leadership, he was nominated by the Houston Business Journal in 2012 for Best CFO in the United States.
Earlier in his career, he worked in London as a Financial Analyst Trainee at Goldman Sachs International before joining Sky Plc, where he held roles focused on capital expenditure analysis and financial planning.
Richard joined Mabon in 2003 as Director of Investments and Planning and has played a central role in shaping the Group’s long-term strategy, project development, and international partnerships. As Managing Director, he oversees Mabon’s investments, operations, and financial performance while leading engagement with governments, regulators, lenders, joint venture partners, and international stakeholders.
He holds a Master’s degree in Finance from Imperial College Business School in London and a Master’s degree in Advanced Chemical Engineering from Imperial College of Science and Technology. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with honours from the University of Leeds and has completed executive education programmes at Harvard Business School.
Richard is an Associate Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the United Kingdom
